Welcome
Author’s Cabin in the woods *
I have tried to write this introductory post so many times. Lots of things have gotten in my way. I have so many things, ideas, and thoughts I want to share; it's like my brain is a radio station playing all kinds of songs, and I'm desperately trying to focus on one song.
Then I sit down to write, and somewhere I lose my train of thought, or everything sounds like garbage, and I give up and go clean my bathroom instead. Since May, I've lost count of how many times I've cleaned my bathroom, and today it occurred to me that I should clean the other room as well. I bet many of you can relate to these feelings of frustration.
But here I am, sitting in my barn-turned-she-shed, trying to figure out what I want to tell you.
This website is a place for me to share my journey from the mainstream to a more cabin-in-the-woods lifestyle, and how I'm figuring out this next chapter of life. If I'm not careful, I'll disappear into my recliner.
Here are a few things I want to write about.
The perils of downsizing, what it's really like to live in a one-room 440 square foot cabin, how I managed to lose weight after the age of 65, books I'm reading, and changes I made to get off the mainstream merry-go-round, such as simplifying my life, my feeble attempts to embrace minimalism, and prioritizing my mental health. Also, how ADHD/Dyslexia affects my life as an older woman.
My dream goal is to build a little online circle of women like me. You know, those of us who want to live differently, think differently, but something keeps holding us back. Well, for years, and even decades, I played small, not wanting to rock the boat with different opinions or question those rules. But now, I'm questioning things, like how does the change in baby clothes to pink and blue impact my life?
Additionally, I’m exploring alternative approaches to doing things and am curious to see if these approaches will improve my life.
I know I can't be the only woman out here feeling this way. I invite you to join me on this journey.
I want you to know that when you visit this site, you'll find encouragement and ideas to ponder.
By sharing my experiences and ideas, I hope to be a source of inspiration to help you thrive.
Welcome to my website, the place where I'm just Julie.
*After six years of living in an RV, I asked my husband to build me a home that doesn’t move when the wind blows. He built this 440-square-foot one-room cabin. Our wonderful home!
